Returning to the game was all that Petra Kvitova could have hoped for after she was stabbed in the hand this time last year, and the two-time Wimbledon champ is exceedingly grateful that a very difficult year is finally coming to an end.
Four Hours of Surgery
The talented player from Czechoslovakia had to undergo four hours in surgery on her left hand in December 2016 after she was attacked by a knife-wielding man who had gained access to her apartment thanks to his disguise as a utility worker.
A Return to Action
Kvitova bravely returned to action after months of rehabilitation in May, at the French Open, and went on to not only participate but win the Aegon Classic in June! She last played in October, at the Tianjin Open, and has since been preparing to open her 2018 season at January’s Brisbane International, proving that the attack, and sports related crime in general can’t keep her down.
A Rollercoaster of a Year
While the rest of us have been enjoying the wonderful winning opportunities the betting NZ offers, Kvitova has been hard at work rehabilitating and coming to terms with the violence she survived.
The player called this year a rollercoaster ride, stating that the start of 2017 was particularly hard, and that she was very glad it was over. She is finding ways to look at what is coming up in a positive way, although the year has been difficult, and she had strong emotions regarding her comeback.
Kvitova stated that she knew she was a good player, but the fact that she still was was the best outcome she could have hoped for. She added that she has started living with her new hand, getting used to it, and loving it, even, and that she was simply taking it slowly. She said she was incredibly grateful that she had not lost any of her fingers.
